Gerald “Gerry” Benedict, age 77, of West Jefferson, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2025. He was born on April 28, 1948, in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee.
A 1966 graduate of Pleasant View High School, Gerry lettered in both baseball and football. His interest in various sports continued throughout his life, and he especially looked forward to watching Ohio State Buckeyes football every fall.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Gerry proudly became a second-generation union ironworker with Local 172. He also served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He always had a love of country and flew his flag with great pride.
Gerry married his high school sweetheart, Laura Carbetta in the winter of 1968. She was the great love of his life. Together they built a beautiful home in the country, raised two much-loved children, and shared 56 years of marriage.
Gerry had a lifelong interest in cars. He worked on many classic cars through the years, occasionally with a cigar or two, and enjoyed going to car shows with his son. Motorcycles were also his thing for a time, with him owning a few Harley-Davidsons.
He liked to watch movies – both old and new, and usually had a current work of fiction nearby. He also spent countless hours outside with his wife – working together to keep their gardens beautiful.
This summer, Gerry called on Jesus to be his Savior and is now at peace in heaven. His family is thankful for the promise that they will indeed see him again!
He will be remembered by his beloved wife, Laura (Carbetta) Benedict; daughter Theresa (Ed) Pelphrey; sister Connie Norris; brother Randy (Nancy) Benedict; daughter-in-law Chris Benedict; fourteen grandchildren: Elaina (Josiah) Moore, Mitchel (Shelby) Pelphrey, Grace (Adam) Fourie, Melanie (Wes) Shetler, Cole, Anna, Evelyn, Audrey, Nathan and Rachel Pelphrey, Joseph (Sabrina) Benedict, Adin, Autumn and Bella Benedict, and eight great-grandchildren: Donovan, Quinten and Obadiah Moore, Riley and Cameron Pelphrey, Oliver, Isla and William Benedict as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his dear son Ryan Benedict, parents Adin Glenn Benedict and Bettye (Miller) Benedict Montandon; Father-in-law Joseph Carbetta, mother-in-law Loretta (Barr) Carbetta, and brother-in-law Seward Norris.
A Funeral Service was held on October 20, 2025, to honor Gerry’s life and legacy.
Gerry will be remembered as loving and kind-hearted – a man who worked hard for those he cared about. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
