Jack Martin Saddler, 81, of West Jefferson, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born on February 24, 1944, in Paintsville, Kentucky, Jack was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, veteran, and cherished member of his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joner and Imogene Saddler, and his sister, Jerri Castle. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marlynn Saddler; his children Kyle (Cindy) Saddler of Agua Dulce, California, Kristen Saddler of Hilliard, Ohio, and Kory Saddler of West Jefferson, Ohio; his stepchildren Ryan (Alicia) Crabbin, Alex (Coddy) Moran, Amy Loveless, and Andy Loveless.
Jack was a proud grandfather to Kolbie, Zackary, Ethan, Matthew, Kylie, Issac, Addy, Boone, Maylee, and Ellie, and a great-grandfather to Millie, Lizzie, and Rosie. He is also survived by his siblings, Sandy (Arnie) Booth, Jim (Sherry) Saddler, and Terri (Danny) Fry; his former wife and mother of his children, Linda Pelphrey; and close family friend Corey Macklin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jack served honorably in the United States Air Force as a Senior Airman (E-4), where he was a C-135 Chief Airplane mechanic for a four-star general. He was deeply committed to public service, formerly working as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the West Jefferson Police Department and as a volunteer fireman with the Jefferson Township Fire Department. After 30 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC).
A pillar of the local youth community, Jack served on the board of the West Jefferson Youth Athletic Association (WJYAA), playing a key role in the creation of Galbreath Hall — a space that became a second home to many. If you ever played “hall ball,” you knew Jack Saddler. He was a coach, referee, umpire, and an ever-present supporter at countless sporting events, where he taught young athletes the values of perseverance and sportsmanship.
A true “Jack of all trades,” he could fix just about anything — from cars to homes — with unmatched skill and determination. He was also an avid golfer who found joy and challenge on the green. For the past two years, Jack faced his illness with unwavering grit, strength, and his signature stubborn resolve.
