Matthew Wayne Smith

Matthew Wayne Smith, age 62, of West Jefferson, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Matt was born December 14, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Robert and Ella (Sue) Smith. He is a graduate of West Jefferson High School and was a lifelong resident of West Jefferson.

Matt worked in the auto body industry his entire life. He served as Body Shop Manager for several local automotive dealerships in his 40+ year career before realizing a lifelong dream of opening his own auto body and detailing business in 2017. He loved music, playing guitar, cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and cheering for his favorite sports teams including his favorite, the Cleveland Browns.

He is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 42 years; brother Jeff (Ann) Smith; four children: Brian (Tina) Smith, Robert (Jenna) Smith, Jaclyn (Zach) Kessler, Wendi (Zach) Jones; ten grandchildren: Carson, Caitlin, Camilla, Colvin, Caleb, Gabriel, Hannah, Noah, Ezra, and Finley; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Matt’s proudest accomplishment is his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He provided hope and support to anyone anytime. He will be dearly missed by so many.

The family will hold a private memorial service Wednesday, December 23. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in West Jefferson. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home.
