Orvin E. "Genie" Buck

March 6, 1955 — November 10, 2025

West Jefferson

Orvin Eugene “Genie” Buck, a cherished 70-year-old resident of West Jefferson, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025. Genie, born on March 6, 1955, to Garland Ray Buck and Evelyn (White) Buck in Grantsville, West Virginia, and was lovingly raised by Garland R. and Pearl E. Buck.

Genie was a beacon of warmth and kindness; his gentle demeanor and infectious smile were a constant source of comfort to all who knew him. While he never spoke, his love was evident in the hugs and smiles he shared. I have often remarked, “If the world were filled with individuals as compassionate and loving as my brother, it would be a truly be a wonderful place.” Genie found joy in cleaning the girls' desk drawers out and clearing off the top of the girls' desk at Arbors, and playing with his Connect Four, Maga Blocks, and his light-up stuffed toys, and he had a particular fondness for participating in the activities offered at the nursing home. Genie was a beloved member of his nursing home family, and he cherished every interaction. He held a special bond with the staff, particularly with Jamie, Bobbi, and Brooke, who were known for their exceptional love and kindness. Their unique connection enriched his life and brought immense joy to his days. Despite his inability to speak, the love he radiated was truly amazing. Genie was often seen strolling through the halls, extending warm embraces, and sharing genuine smiles.

Genie, our beloved family member, was affectionately known as “Bucky” by his devoted loving family at Arbors West Nursing Home. He possessed an extraordinary ability to uplift the spirits of everyone he encountered with a warm smile and a heartfelt embrace. These gestures of love and appreciation were truly remarkable.

Throughout his life, Genie dedicated many years to his work at Arc North, finding fulfillment in his endeavors. While he resided in various group homes, Arbors West Nursing Home in West Jefferson, Ohio, became his true home and extended family. Arbors became a part of our family due to the unwavering love and compassion extended to him by the entire staff and the residents. Family is not defined by blood; it is defined by love, and Arbors is a true definition of just that.

He is preceded in death by his parents Garland and Pearl Buck, his biological mother Evelyn M. McGaughey; sisters: Deborah J. Troyer and Rita R. Mitchell.

Genie is survived by his siblings: Paula (David) Hay, Robert (Jamie) Gentzel, Royce (Linda) Gentzel, Mike (Chris) Brown, Mike (Pat) McGaughey, and brother-in-law Melvin Troyer, along with numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and his loving family at Arbors West. We will all deeply miss his presence.

The family will welcome friends on SUNDAY, November 16, 2025, at the RADER-McDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. MAIN STREET, WEST JEFFERSON, OHIO, 43162, from 2:00-4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.

At a later date, a Celebration of Life Service with a dinner will be held at Arbors West to honor Bucky’s life.

Following the services, Genie will be cremated and interred with his parents, Pearl and Garland Buck, at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.
