Richard L. Braithwaite, born February 26, 1968, in London, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026. Richard's life was deeply rooted in the values of family, craftsmanship, and leaving a mark on all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Richard found great joy in spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed racing, camping, and fishing. He enjoyed his fishing trips with Josh. Known for his remarkable skills in building engines, woodworking, and welding, Richard generously shared his talents, often working on motors for his friends and teaching his grandchildren the art of woodworking and working on cars. His passion extended to the kitchen, where he lovingly prepared meals for family and friends.
Richard is survived by his mother, Jane Braithwaite; his loving wife, April Braithwaite; his children, Heather Long and Joshua (Tiffany) Braithwaite; and his grandchildren, Hunter Long, Charlotte and Colton Braithwaite. He also leaves behind his sister, Teressa Braithwaite (Lisa), and his brother, Freddie Braithwaite (Jan), along with many cousins and a broad circle of friends, including his close friends Tony Dempsey, Jimmy Boggs, Kenny Kauffman, Eric Johnson, and Joe Perry. His loyal pets, Bodi and Tug, were constant companions. Richard is preceded in death by his grandson, Chase Long; his father, Freddie Braithwaite; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the RADER-McDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main Street, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162, on THURSDAY, May 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on FRIDAY, May 22, 2026, at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Pleasant Cemetery, West Jefferson, Ohio.
Richard’s legacy is one of dedication and love, characterized by a life well-lived through craftsmanship, shared adventures, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege to know him.
