Rodney D. Chenos

Dec 17, 1952 — May 30, 2026

Galloway, Ohio

Rodney Dale Chenos, age 73, of Galloway, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026.

Born in Madison County Hospital in London, Ohio, Rodney lived a life defined by service, family, and a deep love for sports. A 1971 graduate of West Jefferson High School, he was a standout athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and track. Rodney was a proud member of the undefeated Roughriders football team during the 1969-1970 season, earned the All-Metro Award in football, was a State Champion in discus, and was later recognized with induction into the school's Hall of Fame.

Rodney dedicated 38 years of service to the West Jefferson Police Department, retiring as Detective Lieutenant. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect of colleagues and community members alike through his commitment, integrity, and dedication to protecting and serving others.

While Rodney was proud of his accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He loved coaching his children in sports throughout their youth and high school years and was their biggest supporter as they continued competing in college. His passion for encouraging young athletes carried on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether coaching from the sidelines or cheering from the stands, Rodney rarely missed a game, match, or event. If he could be there, he was there.

Rodney is survived by his daughter, Heather (Doug) Teters of Marysville; his son, Rodney (Rebecca) Chenos of Hilliard; his brother, Stephen (Paula) Chenos; five grandchildren, Spencer (Crystal) Chenos, Kyle Teters, Rachel Chenos, Julie Chenos, and Natalie Chenos; and three great-grandchildren, Brent, Gage, and Parker. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pamela Chenos; his parents, Stephen and Jewel Chenos; his parents-in-law, Alvin and Norma Green; his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Carol Chenos; and his brothers-in-law, John (Thelma) Toops, Larry (Alene) Hawkins, and Robert (Gladys) Denen.

Rodney's legacy of service, sportsmanship, and unwavering devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
