Walter L. Kenyon, Jr. (Wally or Sonny) of West Jefferson, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2025. Wally was a loving husband, brother-in-law, uncle, and the kind of friend you could count on for many people. He never met a stranger.
Wally grew up in West Columbus, graduated from Pleasant View High School in 1969, and lived and worked in the Columbus area his entire life. He was an officer with the Civil Air Patrol. He worked in sales of musical instruments before becoming a commercial pilot until retirement.
He was a champion pin match shooter with the Shooters Exchange Pistol League, the Buckeye Grand Prix, and Buckeye Bullseye League. He was an active member of the Madison County Amateur Radio Club and Delaware Amateur Radio Association. His activities with these radio groups included participating in Field Days, weekly Net Nights, disaster preparedness with the Madison County Emergency Management Agency, and medical team communications support for the Arnold Classic for many years.
Wally had eclectic interests, the self-drive, and discipline to read and research topics to become a technical expert in his own right on all things that interested him –- musical instruments, aircraft and flying safety, automobiles, firearms, electronics, carpentry, plumbing, U.S. currency collecting, and even roller skating. He always wanted to do things “the right way”. Because of his interests and experiences, he had many stories to tell.
Wally is preceded in death by his mother (Iola), father (Walter, Sr.), and sister (Linda) Kenyon. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Lorna (Gasperini) Kenyon, brother- and sister-in- law Frank and Vicki Gasperini, niece and great nieces Jennifer, Nattalie, and Emily Florence, and many other nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Wally’s life is THURSDAY, June 5, 2025, at RADER-McDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 West Main Street, West Jefferson, OH 43162, at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m.
